It appears as if this document has been around for some time. All the information I have on Ignatius Gough comes from that document. You are probably already familiar with these papers, but if not, I would be delighted to send them to you via mail. All I need is your address.

My mother does not recall any of Joe's siblings or his parents (of course Scholastica died at the time of her birth). But since photographs (family portraits) were very common in the early 1900's, I was hoping to find a photograph of Scholastica. I had one of Joe Brown, but it got lost when we moved and I have searched everywhere for it.

    > My mom remembers most of those Brown children (Joe and Emma's children). However, and I have asked her many, many times, she does not recall a Cassie or Gladis Brown. Yet they are listed in the 1900 Census as children and I cannot find their marriages or them in other censuses, therefore perhaps they died by 1910. But I also cannot find Zell and Agnes Brown in the Census data. My mom remembers Agnes and Zell very well. It is possible they were born after the 1880 Census and were married by the 1900 Census. Maybe they were in the 1890 Census, but as you know, most of the census data for 1890 has been lost.

The only information I have of the Brown family that married into the Gough family is as follows: Thomas Brown (birth unknown) married Harriet Shircliff on June 14, 1825 in Daviess County, IN. Their children were William Brown (born on Feb. 16, 1827 - my line) and Joseph Brown (birth unknown). William Brown, listed below in detail, married Scholastica Gough and one of their sons, Joe Brown, was my great, great grandfather.

I hear that one of my cousins in Northern IL may have a Brown family photograph that has Joe Brown, Scholastica's son, in it, but my mother and I are still waiting on it. If it ever arrives and you would like a copy, I'd be delighted to scan it and send it to you as a JPEG via email.

William married Scholastica Gough on 26 Nov 1849 in St. Peter's DaviessCo. IN. Scholastica (daughter of Ignatius Gough and Sarah Hagan) was born on 13 Feb 1826 in Washington County, Kentucky; died on 20 Feb 1923 in Daviess County, Indiana; was buried on 22 Feb 1923 in St. Peters Cemetery, Daviess Co. 2. 5.  Scholastica Gough was born on 13 Feb 1826 in Washington County, Kentucky (daughter of Ignatius Gough and Sarah Hagan); died on 20 Feb 1923 in Daviess County, Indiana; was buried on 22 Feb 1923 in St. Peters Cemetery, Daviess Co. IN.

    Notes:

I've summarized what they show for her birth year. The 1920 Census says she was 93. If she was 93 in 1920 then she was ~96 (not 98) when she died in 1923. I suspect they knew a birthday, the day she died and thought they knew her age. The obituary writer filled in the blanks. I would bet the was born in 1827 and was 96 when she died on 20 February, 1923

    1850 ~1827
    1860 ~1827
    1870 ~1828
    1880 ~1827
    1900 ~1828
    1920 ~1827

Here is a copy of her obit.

    Hi Mike,

Below is a rough draft or preliminary of what I have built on the Gough Family of "DAVIESS COUNTY INDIANA" I often abbreviate with DCI. I got this far and got switched to another branch of the family.

Yes, Ignatius's family came here, and with who or why, I am not clued into yet. Possibly because the land opened up so reasonable, and so many of the MD to KY group moved together. It is guessed about 1/3 of the original group moved on to Indiana. My searching on the Gough's started with Scholastica, married to William Brown, mother of Sarah Brown, married to James W. Grannan. I haven't completed the database, and Sandy Olin is helping me with the Gough/Brown/McGuire names, and soon as we get a few more Grannans out of the way. Sandy is a Grannan descendant too.

I took time to see what your postings, and the others well. All of you covered a lot of ground on the Goughs since I posted. That is so great. I have found Sarah's grave, but not Ignatius's. The stone must be gone. Her's is flat, under a tree. And Scholastica's is just down the road from them, with her son and his wife.

Let me know if there are any questions.

I am very familiar with Evansville, lived there for 4 years, grew up in Perry County, 50 miles away. I now live in Texas but visit every year.
