    Notes:

    Salathiel Goff was a bondsman for Randolph County Sheriff Jacob Westfall in 1787. (Hu Maxwell's History of Randolph County, page 188).

    His death was caused by a log rolling on him. Salathiel served in the War of 1812. He had a mill known as Goff's Mill, four miles south of Fellowsville, Preston County. He formerly owned land upon which the town of Rowlesburg, Preston County was built.

    He is listed in the book "War of 1812: Virginia Bounty Land & Pension Applicants" by Patrick G. Wardell on page 172 & 173. The book is published by Heritage Books.

    Shows up on page 705 of the 1850 Preston County, W(VA) census, date 7 Aug 1859, 47th District. Was a farmer/miller with property worth $500 in 1850.

    The 1860 census lists his age as 78 and his occupation as milling.

    Served in War of 1812.Drafted in Athens,Oh. Jan. 28,1814 and served 6 months as a Private under Capt. Luther Shepard in Ohio Militia, detailed as a guard for prisoners.Discharged Aug.16,1814 and reenlisted at Parkersburg,W(VA) Aug. 30,1814 in Capt. Steeds Co. of Virginia Militia.Left this Co. and went to Norfolk,VA and served under Ensign Wilton of Hardy Co.Discharged Dec 27,1814. Was killed in 1863 by a log rolling on him.
