      > Mike, my Dad would always caution me.."you do not talk, religion or politics out side of your home, sometimes you should not even talk about it with family members, that is the way wars get started."
      > Yet again, I find that he is right. I will start a Family religion search, today. Here is what I do know, grandmother Lois W. Gough was a Methodist, she HAD to convert to Episcopalian. This was done to appease my greatgrandmother Roberta Hayden Gough who was married to Joseph Ignatius Gough,
      > Lois Rebecca Wise married my granddaddy Oscar William Gough. So now, let me tell you something else. Roberta , descends from Francis Scott Key. In my research on Key, I discovered he was a very religious man and was also Episcopalian. According to both my Dad and grandmother Gough, we come from the Anglican Church of England. ( I have her Anglican cross ). I was told this religion is considered High Episcopalian..It is so close to being Catholic...it's scarey. Instead of the Pope we have the ArchBishop. My 2nd cousin Jane Mattingly Gough is also Episcopalian, I believe she still attends St. Andrews' in Leonardtown. This is a very old "historic" church, on the National Register.

      > You asked about the Epicapale side, Joseph I. Gough was Catholic, his second wife, Roberta was Epicapale. The story is, a priest stopped by ? to see if Roberta would convert. She declined. The priest then told my GGrandmother all of her and Josephs children would become bastards and when they died they would go to hell. Roberta ran this man out of her house with a broom. I heard that story many times.
      > Something very similar happened to my father and mother. Let me share this with you. My brother Glenn Hans Gough was born in Fayetville, N.C. December 13, 1957. My mother could not speak English very well. My father was in the "field" as was the Army Chaplin. My dad got to the hospital, without the Chaplin. My dad did not know his son had been born with an open heart. Grandmother Lois was there with my mother. When my dad entered the room, the town priest was in my mothers' face. With alcohol on his breath. Saying unless the baby was baptized/christen, her baby would die and go to hell. As you can imagine, my dad shoved the priest up against the wall. He Almost lost a stripe over his actions. It was after this, when my parents turned away from church/religion.
      > I have some names and dates on the rest of my side. I will send soon. I must wake up a 1:30 am. We have futher to drive this week.
      > Thank you for the Basil Hayden info. Did you send something showing a relationship to Hayden on your side?
      > My mother said she will wait until after Labor Day to call Joe. She does not want to push the envelope with him. She told me to tell you " Every male Gough she ever met, was as stubborn as a mule. In a few min. I will fw: a copy of the e-mail to Phil.
