Our beloved Mother, Nita Shillinglaw, a thoroughly beautiful and elegant woman, passed away July 28, 2008, peacefully in her home. After moving to Lancaster with her family in 1964, Nita raised a family of four children then later received a business degree from AV College. As Branch Manager of the AV Federal Credit Union she significantly increased the services provided by the credit union. After retiring in 1993, she spent tireless hours as a volunteer, including positions as a AVFCU Board Member, as well as Treasurer, Vice President and President and of the Assistance League of Antelope Valley. For 46 years she was loved by her
devoted husband, Keith Wilkason, who passed away in 1991. In 1993, God blessed her again with Andrew Shillinglaw, her second husband and true soul mate who loved and cared for her to the end. Mom often named her four children as her greatest accomplishment. She walked before us in strength of character and virtue and was a constant godly example of unconditional love and support. She was our fierce champion, praising and encouraging us even when we least deserved it. Nita is survived by her husband Andrew Shillinglaw; children, Sharon (Wilkason) Boirun, Mary Catherine (Wilkason) Berthiaume, Susan (Wilkason) Fernald, and Thomas Wilkason; brother, Eugene Stewart; sister, Jackie Berger. Her legacy also includes 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Her beautiful voice is singing at last with the angels before God, and heaven is a better place because shes there. We will miss you terribly Mom, and will love you forever. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m., Thursday, July 31, 2008, with a Rosary at 7 p.m., at Halley-Olsen-Murphy, Lancaster Chapel. Funeral Mass will be held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, Aug. 1, 2008, at Blessed Junipero Serra Parish in Quartz Hill followed by interment at Good Shepherd Cemetery. Donations in Bernitas name may be made to the Assistance League of Antelope Valley.
