  Note that James was only 13-15 when Willis was born so perhaps he is not the father. There is a story that one of Lewis Riley GOFFs daughter ran off with a Yankee. Perhaps Amanda??? 1870 James B. SINGLETON census has William A. age 4 (b. ca 1866) & Lewis H. age 2 (b. ca 1868) 1880 Lewis R. GOFF census has Willis O. Singleton, age 14 (b. ca 1866) as a grandson 1880 James SINGLETON census (next door to Lewis) has William, age 4 (b. ca 1876) as a son, along w/Lewis H. age 12 (b. ca 1868) OK, James & Amanda's ages are consistent in the 1870 & 1880 census and they both list a son Lewis with a consistent age. So it's probably the same family. Why do they have two son's named William? The one b. ca 1866 in the 1870 census who becomes Willis O. when he's living with his grandparents and then a different William (b. ca 1876). Sometimes, when a child dies, they use the same name, but they're both living in 1880.
