Our First GGFA Virtual Gathering

June 26, 2021 4:00 – 6:30 Eastern (US)

We are excited to be celebrating our 40th anniversary of the Goff-Gough Family Association. Since it has been difficult this year to plan an in-person gathering to celebrate, we have decided to meet virtually. Plus, this will enable those of you who are unable to travel and those who come from around the world to join us.

We have divided our gathering into two sections. The first comes soon: Saturday, June 26 from 4:00 – 6:30 pm Eastern (US). We’ll have a guided tour of the many new features of our GGFA website, a presentation on researching our African American GGFA families, and a conversation with one of our founding members, Pam Pressney.

We will be using Zoom to connect us, which means you can join the event from wherever you are with your laptop, tablet or smart phone. (Please look below for information if you are not sure about how to use Zoom.)

After checking out the details below, please click Register Now and let us know that you plan to join us. You will receive a confirmation email with the link to join. And please, don’t forget to mark you calendars for Part II, coming on Saturday, September 25.

Virtual Gathering Agenda – June 26

4:00-4:45 pm Eastern(US): “Navigating our New GGFA Website” – Bob Inhoff, GGFA Webmaster

  • GGFA has just launched its completely redesigned website. GGFA Webmaster, Bob Inhoff, will give us a guided tour and highlight key features so that members can get the greatest benefits. There will also be time for questions.

5:00-5:45 pm Eastern (US): “Reconstructing Family Histories for African Americans, Enslaved and Free” presented by Stacy Ashmore Cole

  • As a family history researcher, you may wonder whether your ancestors were slaveholders, or you may be looking for enslaved ancestors. How do you find the documentation? References to enslaved people abound in digitized wills, estate inventories, and other records, but many of these records are contained in unindexed online collections at FamilySearch and Ancestry. Stacy Cole will explain how to find these records, demonstrate her website project for documenting them, and tell some stories.

6:00-6:30 pm Eastern time: “A Conversation with GGFA Co-Founder, Pam Pressney,” featuring Pam Pressney and Denise Wells

  • The Goff-Gough Family Association is 40 years old this year! It was begun in 1981 by Mary K. Barnard, Herb Evans and Pamela Pressney. Join us on June 26 to hear Pam describe in her own words, how these three Goff researchers from across the United States joined together to found and organize the Goff-Gough Family Association. Today, GGFA membership has reached beyond the boundaries of the US to the United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada, New Zealand and Australia.

After each presentation there will be an opportunity to ask questions, followed by a brief period for a break and to chat informally with your cousins.
