    • Could she be the M.J. SINGLETON in the 1860 Henderson Co. census living next to Edmund? In 1869 & 1872 Edmund assumes the guardianship of M.J.'s children (father Leonard). The guardian in 1874 is John H. GALBREATH. A neighbor in 1850 of Edmund.

      In the past I've mused that Edmond T. GAWF's daughter Marilda/Matilda might have married Leonard SINGLETON (they're living next door to Edmond in 1860, he assumes guardianship of Leonard's children in 1869 & 1872 & both women are the same age, and names both start with M.)

      I'm helping Donna Yavorshak look for her Jim SINGLETON b. ca 1853. He may have been the ward of Edmond (the records consistently say Robert & Mary but the 3rd child is James/Jane/John/James. I think the writing was poor and because of the 1870 census, think it is James)

      The 1860 census has:

      (I think this is Leonard, Sterling is listed separately)

      The ages are good for them to be the same. So where are they in 1870? Not under SINGLETON. Probably near Edmond GAWF since he was named guardian in 1869 & 1972 so I thought perhaps the mother had remarried and they were hiding under their stepfather's name.

      In 1870 I find the following sitting in a page of GAWFs & the page after Edmond T. GAWF

      POOL, Joshua 39 b. MS (b. ca 1831) (indexed as Joshnat)
      Mearilda (I took this from the index because I couldn't read the entry) 35 TN (b. ca 1835) but it looks like Marilda

      Mary 13 (b. ca 1857) TN
      James 8 (b. ca 1862) TN
      Martha 1 (b. ca 1869) TN (neither Joshua nor Mearilda can read/write)

      names are right but birthdates are a bit off. But Mearilda is awful close to Marilda/Matilda , Edmond's daughter's name.

      Then I found out why Joshua POOL sounded familiar. There's a young one living with Edmond in 1860

      That's all I can find. Can anyone one up me or have any ideas?

      I can't find Joshua POLL (Sr.) in 1860 or 1850. If Joshua (Jr.) belongs to Joshua (Sr.), then why aren't they together in 1870? Where is Jr. in 1870

      Only thing close I could find is: 1870 Township 9, Jones Co., MS, Ellisville PO a Joshua POOL 18, b. MS, living with David R. POOL, physician - unfortunately this census doesn't list relationship and I can't find the family in 1860 to see if Joshua is his son.

      So it tracks OK that Marilda b. 1834 TN (Edmond T. GAWF's 1850 census), is the M.J. age 24 (b ca 1836) married to L. (Leonard) SINGLETON, widowed by 1869 because father becomes guardian of her SINGLETON children, remarries by 1869 to Joshua POOL and appears as Mearilda age 35 (ca 1835). Of course there's no proof.This could be the dau. of Edmund S. GAWF, Matilda. She's the right age, lives next to Edmund and Edmund took guardianship of her children. No proof through. . . . . Only mention we can find of Matilda is in the 1850 census of her father. She's 16 (b. ca 1834, TN)

      Think she married William CLIFTON. Marilda has a dau. in 1870 w/the right name and age. This also gives us a better name for Marilda - Marilda Jane GAWF.
