80, of Pekin
Willie J. Singleton, 80, of Pekin, passed away at 11:46 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, 2015, at Hallmark House Nursing Center surrounded by his loving family.
Willie was born Feb. 8, 1934, in Jackson, Tenn., to John and Bettie Bray Singleton. He married Joan Pendergraft Aug. 3, 1951, in Corinth, Miss.
Preceding him in death were his parents; one infant son, Michael J. Singleton; three brothers, Roy, Robert and Carl Singleton; and two sisters, Belle Glozier and Elizabeth Privett.
Surviving are his wife, Joan of Pekin; one son, Roger Singleton of Pekin; two daughters, Donna (Joe) Yavorshak of Pekin and Debra Gerdes of North Pekin; two grandchildren, Kimberly (Bob) Whelan of Bloomington and Michael Yavorshak of Pekin; three great-grandchildren, Cooper and Luca Davis, both of Bloomington, and Cameron Yavorshak of Pekin; three brothers, Joe (Margaret) Singleton of South Pekin, Jim (Elaine) Singleton of Loves Park and John (Faye) Singleton of Jackson, Tenn.; and one sister, Sue (Larry) James of Spring Creek, Tenn.
Willie worked for Sandrock Autobody until 1975. He then became co-owner with Glen Rhoades of Downtown Autobody, retiring in 1990. He was a member of the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, working in his vegetable garden and playing the guitar.
Private graveside services will be Wednesday, Jan. 28, in Lakeside Cemetery, with the Rev. Judy Doyle officiating. There will be no visitation.
Henderson Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
