Birthdates & death dates are slightly different but both buried in Corinth Church. 1880 & 1900 census say mine was b. NC, DC says NC. Corinth Cem. transcription has b. 20 Feb 1852, d 8 May 1917. DC b 18 June 1851, d 17 May 1917 of Paralysis. B. TN. DC says father is Granvil Brawley, b NC & Susa Deton b NC daughter Mina's death cert says her mother's maiden name is ALEXANDER (could this have been confused with Permelia Charlotte BRAWLEY ALEXANDER, who I suspect is a sister to Mary Ella's father? Although Mary Ella's bro's death cert says his father was Houston BRAWLEY and Houston was the first name of his father-in-law, not father). e-mail from my uncle James Patrick WHITE, 7/26/2000 "Grandmother TOWNSELL (Artie Van GOFF WHITE TOWNSELL) was one-quarter Cherokee which I believe came from her mother's blood-line. There was also to a lesser percent of Cherokee lineage on the WHITE's side of the tree. Grandfather WHITE would never admit his Indian heritage since he believed and rightfully so it would impede his promotion in the Navy. No "don't ask don't tell" policies back then.
