BURCH - Joseph C., 77, of Louisville, passed away Sunday, September 20, 2009 at Baptist East Hospital. He was a retired master plumber who owned his own business for over 35 years, Burch Plumbing and Piping, an Air Force veteran of the Korean War and member of St. Edward Catholic Church since 1957. He was a 60-year member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters union #107/502. He was a former Jeffersontown city council member and board member of Catholic Charities. He was preceded in death by his parents, Philip and Susan Burch; brothers, Philip, John and Robert Burch and sisters, Jean Burch, Rose King and Rita Eberenz. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, the former Mary Patricia "Patsy" Meagher; sons, Greg (Teri), Joe Pat (Susan), Frank (Helen), Dennis (Mary Anne) and Daniel (Kim); daughters, Susan Hildebrand (John) and Anita Burch; 14 grandchildren, Matthew, Nick, Andrew, Erin, Kathryn, Ryan, Rebecca, Holly, Cara, Hannah, Anna, Joe, Cate and Ben; brother, Bernard (Frances); sister, Marie Langdon; sisters-in-law, Davalene Burch and Mary Martha Burch and many loving nieces and nephews. He was a loving son, brother, husband, father and grandfather, and a wonderful devoted friend to many. He enjoyed UK and Trinity High School athletics, especially watching and listening to games with his children and grandchildren. He was a hard working businessman who treated his employees and customers with the utmost respect and integrity. He was generous to those in need and gave freely of his time, talent and treasure. He was loved by all and will be dearly missed. His funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at St. Edward Catholic Church, 9608 Sue Helen Dr., with cremation to follow. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 1-9 p.m. at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Mass of the Air.
