  • Notes
    • Janice Elizabeth Clements McKinsey of Indianapolis was born to Nick Clements Sr. and Marguerite Pike Clements in the family home in Uniontown, Kentucky on March 19, 1916.

She was the oldest of seven children-- Fred (Anna) Clements, Maurice Clements, twins Nick (Betty) Clements Jr. and Marguerite (Toby) Bolds of Uniontown, KY, Patricia (Wilbur) Clark of Madisonville, KY, and Sarah (Jack) Perdue of Henderson, KY.

She graduated from St Agnes High School in Uniontown, KY and was awarded a full scholarship to Nazareth College in Louisville, KY. After graduating from college she was offered a full scholarship to law school, but as that was not the way women were supposed to do things at that time, she declined, briefly worked, married Claud McKinsey Jr. and had two children, Claud Dennis and Lynn Ann in Evansville, IN.

After WW II the family moved to Speedway, Indiana. In 1953 Janice began substitute teaching in the Speedway and Decatur Township schools. In 1958 she was offered a full time position in Decatur Township teaching Latin, algebra, and geometry. She received a Masters Degree from Butler University in 1963. She loved teaching and taught until 1975 when she then joined her husband in retirement.

Following his demise in 1976 she traveled extensively and toured the world. She was a constant seeker of knowledge and thrived on growth. She enjoyed reading, bridge, golf, crossword puzzles, and being with family and friends. She truly exemplified a woman with her own mind and "did it her way," bringing knowledge, truth, honesty, love, and kindness into all parts of her and other's lives.

On January 13th, 2012, after a time visiting with family, she decided to take a little rest on her couch and closed her eyes. She adjusted her covers, crossed her legs, intertwined her fingers across her chest and peacefully went to sleep. She was relaxed and at home.

Janice is preceded in death by her parents, husband Claud, son Claud Dennis, brothers Fred, Maurice, and Nick Clements, and sisters, Marguerite and Patricia.

Janice is survived by her daughter Lynn, and daughter-in-law Sonder McKinsey, sister-in-law Anna Clements, sister Sarah and brother-in-law Jack Perdue. Janice was aunt to 25 nieces and nephews whose company she truly adored, grandmother to three--Quinn (Katherine) McKinsey, Layne McKinsey, Vince McKinsey, and great grandmother to three--Evangeline McKinsey, Elora Taylor, Aaliyah Taylor.
