John BOWLES lived in St. Mary's County, Maryland, and died before 1790. He married Monica WOOTEN, who died after 1790. (Her parents were James and Elizabeth GOUGH.)
John and Monica had:
1. William, b. 7 Jan 1752 in Leonardtown, Maryland, and married Mary.
2. John Baptist, b. 15 Nov. 1762 in Leonardtown, MD
3. Joseph, died in Washington Co., KY. Married Alice RALEY in Washington
Co., KY on 22 May 1804.
4. Jane, b. 25 March 1757 in Leonardtown, MD. Married Ignatius GREENWELL.
5. Susan, b. 1 Oct. 1753 in Leonardtown, MD.
6. Henrietta, b. 15 Sept., 1760 in Leonardtown, MD.
7. Mary, b. 30 Jan. 1767 in Leonardtown, MD. Married William ROBERTS.
Before John BOWLES, we have his father, William BOWLES, d. before 2 Nov. 1748.
William's father was George BOWLES, who m. Lilias WATSON. (Her will was probated in 1773. George died before 1761.)
George's father was Valentine BOWLES, who was born in England.
I called Connie RILEY, as I'm not only interested in the BOWLES family, but the RILEYs, too.
She recommended several books that some of us might be able to find through our larger genealogical libraries, or through the FHCs. She found hers at the Clayton Library in Houston, Texas.
"Colonial Settlers, Saint Clement's Bay, 1534-1780, St. Mary's County, Maryland" by Mary Louise Donnelly.
"Mudd Family of the U.S.," by Richard D. MUDD, M.D. (2 Vols.)
There is also a book on the WORLAND family, by Olive someone (she couldn't find her notes on that one)
and a book on the TUCKER/ROBIE families.
All four of these books, she said, have information in them that pertain to this BOWLES line.
