Notes - Will and Inventory of Ferdinando Gough of Middle Barton, 1727
To his kinsman Ferdinando Southam, son of his nephew George Southam of Barton, Bucks., all his messuages and tenements etc. in Souldern, and those in Middle, Steeple and Westcott Barton, on condition that he pay the following legacies:
To nephew (meaning his son-in-law) Edward Lamley of Steeple Aston £10 for life, quarterly at St Thomas, Lady Day, St John and Michaelmas, commencing at the first feast following the testator's death. Edward was married to his daughter Ann Gough.
To nephew Edward Lamley, £100.
To niece Ann Southam, daughter of his brother Southam of Croton, £300.
To cousin Ryves, wife of Mr Ryves of Woodstocke, £20.
To servant maid Jane John sen. £30.
To servant man John Pelly £5 if he lives with the testator at his decease.
To the poor of Steeple Aston 40s.
To the poor of Souldern 40s.
All to be paid within six months of his decease.
The following bequest, more than the one above, suggests that George Southam is the only male offspring of George Southam alive.
To brother Southam, nephew George Southam, niece Mary Southam, nephew Edward Lamley, cousin Myrry of Upper Heyford, cousin Myrry of Lower Heyford, and Mr Ryves of Woodstock (?accd?) to his wife, a gold ring of 20s.
To be buried in Steeple Barton church next to his wife.
All other estate to Ferdinando Southam.
Nephew George Southam appointed sole executor in trust for his kinsman Ferdinando Southam until he attains the age of 21.
