Notes - [Girten, Charles, 1819.FTW]
Known as "Dink," James Cornelius Girten was found slumped over the steering wheel of his car near the levee in Uniontown, KY having died of a heart attack. He had died shortly after the death of his daughter, Marilyn.
On 30 august 1969, a car was hit head on by a drunk driver. Peggy Girten Tate, her husband George Tate, Norma Kay Girten Yates and her husband, Doug Yates, and Agnes Girten, unmarried, perished in the car which had caught fire. They were returning from the race track at Ellis Park in Henderson County, KY or possibly from Vanderburgh County, IN. Two children of Peggy Girten Tate and George Tate were thrown from the car and survived. They were Craig and Janelle Tate. They were raised by their grandmother, Ella Gertrude "Sis" Hagan Girten in Uniontown, KY. (It is assumed that the Girtens mentioned in these notes were the children of James Cornelius "Dink" Girten.)
Of the nine children born to James "Dink" Girten and Sis girten, six did not live beyond their early twenties.
Ruth Ann married 1) Robert Stewart, 2) Ken Stremming and reside in Lee's Summit, Missouri in 1997.
Jan Girten (married name), living near Kansas City, Mo
