Moved to Kansas City, Kansas, to Armourdale from Paducah or UnionTown, Kentucky, between 1903 and 1905. Employed as a maintenance worker with the Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools. Photo of Gary, Milty, and Dick Girten is in file for Elizabeth Gough Girten. Died of a stroke and was cared for by the Little Sisters of the Poor after stroke. A devout Catholic, he never missed Mass on Sunday and often went during the week when he could. His daughter Mary said that he always wore a suit to Mass. Mary also said that she, her mother, Elizabeth Ann Girten, a friend were playing penochole when William Virgil Girten began to feel the stroke and that by the next morning he could not use his left arm and his sight failed. He declined rapidly and the Little Sisters of the Poor were called to care for him.
He is buried, with his spouse, Elizabeth Gough, in Section 3 Old, Lot 237, Sp 2, Mount Calvary Cemetery, 38th and State Ave, Kansas City, Kansas. This grave is in the first row which faces 38th Street.[Girten, Charles, 1819.FTW]
