This has to be James Gough Jr. or IV of Woodford Co., son of James III.

Rechecked the tax records for Scott Co.,1795 thru 1817. Some of the early records were partly unreadable due to water damage.

      Here's what I found:

      Ignatius gough--1798,1800,1802,1809,1811,1812,1814,1815,1816 & 1817.
      James Gough-- 1798,1800,1801,1804,1805,1808,1809,1810, 1811,1812,1814,1815,1816 & 1817.
      John B. Gough-- 1798,1800,1801,1802,1803,1804 (listed as B.John),1807 B.John, 1808 B.John
      1810,1811,1812,1814,1815,1816 & 1817.
      Cornelius Gough-- 1803,1804,1807,1809,1812,1814,1815,&1817.
      John Goff-- 1798 & 1809
In 1815 James was listed three times, he was always listed with several head of cattle, horses and slaves.

Jeremiah Tarleton was also quite wealthy.

At no time was John referred to as John Baptist, I agree with you that he may not have been names John Baptist.

!From the Hisory Of Woodford County by Railey. HE states William Davis and many members of the two families (Gough and Davis) were buried in a private graveyard, which was in view of both premises. James died at 48 years of age. A member of the Gough family signed as a witness on John Frazer's will. The children in this family are not in order. I will have to search farther on that. They were burried near Midway, Wooford, KY.

I believe the James Gough of Woodford Co. KY was related to the Gough/Goff of Maryland and relatives to James Pulliam and Mike Gough.
