Notes - John Baptist Gough, son of John Baptist Gough and _____did not marry Mary and died before September 6, 1813.
John Gough, b. 1767 (son of George Gough and wife, Priscilla) married Mary Jones on June 1, 1795 in St. Mary's County. This John Gough (and his middle name was not Baptist) died October 15, 1804 and is buried at St. Francis Xavier RCC at Newtown.
Supporting documents:
12/1799: The court appointed John Gough as guardian to Clare Jones, orphan of Solomon Jones. Securities: James Williams and Wilfred Manning. (Orphan Ct. Rec., Fenwick). NOTE: Clare Jones was his sister-in-law.
6/1806: Mary Gough, widow of John Gough petitions to be guardian of her two children.
9/1806: Mary Gough, guardian to her children; the court appointed Joseph Gough and John Johnstone to value and estimate the annual value of the land, etc. belonging to George Gough and Thomas Washington Gough, orphans of John Gough dec'd (Orphan Ct. Rec., Fenwick).
9/6/1813: Admin. accts. of John Gough, SMC. Admx.: Mary Gough. Widow, 1/3. Equally: Sons, George Gough and Thomas W. Gough. (SMC Balances and Distributions).
Note that Donnelly used this same date of September 9, 1813 as the date by which John Baptist Gough, son of John Baptist Gough and ____Yates, had died.
In 1808, George Gough (father of this John Gough) made his will and he named his grandsons, sons of his son John:
Will of George Gough, SMC, 5/20/1807-8/4/1808. Son: Thomas Gough, a negro girl named Rachel and eight sheep. Grandsons: George Gough and Thomas Gough, sons of my deceased son, John Gough, two French Crowns. Son: Charles Gough, a negro woman named Bette; an old negro woman named Bett; a negro man named Dick; a negro boy named Harry; and the residue of my estate. Sister: Elizabeth Gough, to have a home during her life at the home of my son, Charles Gough, at his expense. To: St. Ignatius Chapel, $16. Exec.: Son, Charles Gough. Wit.: Richard Clarke, George Taylor. (St. Mary's County, Maryland Wills 1803-1820 by Linda Reno and Joann Humphries).
No clue as to where Donnelly came up with the name of Charles W. Gough.
Bottom line: John Baptist Gough died prior to 3/11/1755 leaving his wife (whose name we don't know, but who married second Thomas Yates) and two sons, e.g., James Gough, b. 1754 and John Baptist Gough, b. 1755, both of whom were living as late as 1756.
