The info I found concerns William and Sarah Mattingly (my great grandparents) and marriage dates for James and Mary Veronica Gough and Stephen and Mary Ann Gough. Nothing too exciting.

    • Thomas was the son of Stephen T and Mary Ann Brown Gough. He was born and lived his entire life in the St. Mary's vicinity of Indiana, both Daviess and Martin Counties.

Washington Democrat , Washington, IN, Friday 20 Oct 1911

Thomas Gough, Barr Township Farmer Dead
Thomas Gough, age fifty -one years, the assessor of Barr township, died Thursday morning about 10 o'clock at his home a mile and a half northeast of Montgomery. A stroke of paralysis which he received about six weeks ago is said to have been the direct cause of his death although he had suffered from stomach trouble for some time previous. In 1880, Mr. Gough married Margaret Ann McAtee. No children were born to the union, so three children were adopted. They are Mrs. Virgil Grannan of Montgomery, Mrs. Elmer Love of Cannelburg and Miss Nellie Brown who lives at the Gough home. He was a member of the Catholic church and was also a member of the Knights of Columbus lodge of Loogootee. His body will be buried in St. Mary's cemetery in Barr township Saturday morning.

Mr. Gough was one of Barr township's best known and most influential citizens. For a number of years he had been the assessor of Barr township and his official work had been well done. He was the township assessor at the time of his death. Auditor Nugent will likely appoint Mr. Gough's successor.

The deceased leaves four brothers and three sisters. They are Charles of Loogootee, James, Joseph and Frank Gough, and Mrs. Edward Laurel, Mrs. Frank Mattlingly of Barr township and Mrs. Albert McAtee of this city.
