      William Benedict Greenwell b.1832 was the son of Benedict and Maria Gough Greenwell. He is not, however, your ancestor. Meade County KY Records Vol. 2 has marriage of William B. Greenwell 1857, of age, b. Meade Co., to Britana Brown, consent of father, Richard, also b. Meade Co. License Date of 9/12/1857; marriage date 12/14/1857, Minister Father Patrick MacNicholas.

If the information in the above mentioned book is accurate about the first Catholic settlement in Scott Co., Kentucky, I would say John was probably born in Kentucky inasmuch as his father migrated to Scott Co. KY, in 1786 or 1787.
