    • James "Mike" M. Atherton

      Evansville - James "Mike" M. Atherton, age 77, of Evansville, IN, passed away at 4:49 p.m. on Thursday, July 23, 2020, at Deaconess Midtown Hospital.

      Mike was born April 6, 1943, in Evansville, IN, to James F. Atherton and Ardyth T. (Gough) Atherton. He graduated from Memorial High School in 1961. Mike joined the Airforce in 1964. He was married July 29, 1965, to Reva Atherton and they were married for 54 years. Mike worked as a police officer for 38 years and retired in 2005. He was involved in the F.O.P. where he served as Vice President and President at separate times. Mike also served on the Police Merit Commission. He was an avid race fan. Mike enjoyed being involved in his families lives as he was a strong family man.

      Mike is survived by his wife, Reva Atherton; daughters, Kristi Schmidt (Matthew), Tracy Moore (Kent), Andrea Thompson (Kevin Davids), Holly Moore (Tony); son, Anthony "AJ" Atherton (Jamie Stewart); grandchildren, Joseph (Emily), Jonathan (Becky), Kevin (Jasmine), Krystal (Keith), Kurt (Lexi), Michael (Felecia), Danny (Rachael), Tatum, Seger, Alexis, Aiden, Hannah; seven great grandchildren; five nieces and four nephews.

      Mike is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Beverly Wayne.

      Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 4, 2020, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel - A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue with Pastor Kris Holzmeyer officiating. A Live Stream will be available beginning twenty minutes prior to the service time. Please visit Boone Funeral Home's Facebook page and click on the link provided. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

      Friends may visit from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Monday, August 3, 2020, at BOONE FUNERAL HOME EAST CHAPEL.
