  • Notes
    • 3/11/1755-4/17/1755: Admin. accts. of John Baptis Gough, SMC. Appraisers: Kenelm Boult, John Haskins. Creditors: John Baptist Buckman, Philip Key. NOK: Peter Gough and Elizabeth Daft. Exec: Robert Yates (I believe this is an error, it should read Thomas Yates--the only Robert Yates around at this time was from Charles County).

The wife of John Baptist Gough was not a Yates. His widow married second, Thomas Yates prior to March 11, 1755 (see above) and it is further proven by this document:

7/6/1756: Admin. accts. of John Baptist Gough, SMC. Sureties: Thomas Yates, Sr., Henry Jarboe. Received from: Joseph Alvey. Payments to: Philip Key, Henry Jernegan, John Baptist Bucknam, Thomas Manley, Richard Newton, John Shanks, Mev. Lock due Lord Baltimore, Mev. Lock, John Bond, John Finch. Distribution to: Widow, 1/3 (now wife of accountant). Residue to: James Gough (age 2); John Baptist Gough (age 1). Admin.: Thomas Yates. (Admin. accts. of the Prerogative Court of Maryland, Libers, 37-45, 1754-1760 by V. L. Skinner, Jr.). NOTE: This record is not on CD #206.

Having gone back over this family, I've had one of my "revelations." The wife of John Baptist Gough (d. by 3/11/1755) was most likely Mary Jarboe, daughter of Henry Jarboe, Jr. (d. 1743) and sister of Henry Jarboe III. This Henry Jarboe III was one of the sureties for the estate of John Baptist Gough!! In addition, Mary Jarboe and John Baptist Gough (according to my relationship calculator) were half first cousins, once removed.

Here's the will of Henry Jarboe, Jr. (father of Henry Jarboe III and Mary Jarboe):

Will of Henry Jarboe, SMC, 2/20/1742-43; 3/4/1742-1743. Son: Henry, dwelling plantation. Children: Mary, James, and Stephen, personalty. No executor named. Wit.: John Raley, Richard Mahoney, Thomas Smart. (Maryland Calendar of Wills).

She wasn't the daughter of Henry Jarboe III-all of his daughters and their husbands are accounted for.
