William "Billy Tom" Thomas Mills, 87, of Evansville, passed away Saturday, September 6, 2014. He was born October 19, 1926, in Union County, Kentucky to the late Frank and Gertrude (Kaster) Mills.
He served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Hickox and USS Howorth, worked for the railroad, then went to work for Mead Johnson in 1955 before retiring in 1989 after 34 yrs. He attended Trinity Wesleyan Church and Terrace Parke General Baptist.
Bill was always willing to help those in need, both locally and oversees. He took pride in providing children without access to clean water, and for many years donated to the building of fresh water wells in communities around the world. He took great joy in watching his grandchildren participate in sports, and could be found along the sidelines of any game they were in until his health kept him from attending.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Dolores, in 2002.
He is survived by his four children, Robert & Debbie Mills of Henderson, KY, Ronald & Cindy Mills, Michael & Lisa Mills of Evansville, IN, and Karen & Randy Peach of Newburgh, IN, with whom he lived with for the past three years. Bill also was the oldest of four, having two sisters and a brother, Gladys Hite of Morganfield, KY, Jack Mills of Henderson, KY, and Sue & James Syers, of Lexington, KY. He also leaves behind eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and their extended families.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Thursday, September 11, 2014, at Alexander East Chapel, officiated by Celebrant Carrie Hatchett, with entombment in Park Lawn Cemetery.
