      Mrs. Mabel Stoker
Shelby - Funeral services will be held Saturday for Mr. Mabel Murtey Stoker, 75, who died Wednesday in a Harlan hospital.

She is survived by one son, Thomas of Shelby; one daughter, Mrs. Ann Stoker Paden; and two grandchildren.

Mrs Stoker was a graduate of the University of Nebraska (1915) and a member of the Lutheran Church. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and was vice president and director of the Farmers Savings Bank here.

Services will be at 2 p.m. from the Lutheran Church here. Pastor Dell Olson will officiate. Burial will be in the Shelby Cemetery. Berthusen Funeral Home in Avoca will be in charge of arrangemants.

Mabel was a 1915 graduate of the University of Nebraska. Taught school before marriage. After her children were grown she worked in Farmers Savings Bank, Shelby, Iowa where her husband was President and majority owner. She worked until the day she was taken to the hospital where she died at the age of 75. She was a Vice President of the bank being so elected by the Directors after the death of her husband.

My grandmother, Mabel Murtey Stoker (1893-1969) was from Nebraska where my mother Ann Murtey Stoker Paden was born (1920-2002). My mother died in Tennessee where she spent much of her adult life. I believe that I (b. 1944) and my sister Nancy (b.1950) are the only descendants of Thomas Murtey in our generation. I have 3 sons: James Mark Paden, Jr. (1969), John Boone Paden (1970), and Daniel Lee Paden (1973) as well as one granddaughter Amy Kathryn Paden (2002). I note you live in Vicksburg, MS; my wife's family is from DeSoto Co., MS in N. MS next to Memphis where she grew up. We married in Memphis where I also lived (I was born in Missouri during WWII). I had two careers: 1. retired from NationsBank, Charlotte, NC in 1996. Spent 30 years in international banking. 2. In 1972 got into the pine plantation business and have been at it for 31 years now and do it full time. I raise and sell pulpwood and saw timber. We live on our main pine plantation in very rural lower coastal plain of South Carolina.[wendy Boddie Genelogy Family Tree.FTW]
