    • William "Bill" F. Perkins Jr., 78, of Evansville, passed away on Oct. 18,
      2009, at Charlier Hospice Center surrounded by his family. He was born to
      William F. Perkins Sr., and Marie Perkins on August 13, 1931, in Evansville.
      He graduated from Memorial High School in 1949 and was co-captain of the
      football team for the 1947-1948 seasons. He was selected All-City, All-State
      and to the Downtown Quarterback Club. He completed an electrical
      apprenticeship with IBEW Local 16. He was a journeyman wireman and a 60-year
      union member. In 1961, he began working for Alcoa as a maintenance
      electrician. He served one term as business agent for Local 104. He also
      served on the executive board at the local and national levels. He was a
      member of the negotiating committee on numerous national contracts. He
      retired from Alcoa after 32 years. He was a life member of Knights of
      Columbus Council 565. He was a parishioner of Holy Rosary Catholic Church. He
      enjoyed waterfowl, quail hunting, and fishing with his sons and grandsons. He
      also enjoyed watching horse racing, playing poker, and golf.

      Bill is survived by his wife of 59 years, Barbara (Hardesty); sons, David and
      wife, Jan, of Newburgh; Gary and wife, Mary K., and Randy and wife, Liz;
      daughter, Karen Gerhardt and husband Matt; grandchildren Andy Perkins; Nathan
      Perkins; Krista Decker and husband Duane; April Miller and husband, Rodger;
      Erin Perkins; Matt Perkins and wife, Melissa; Meghan Gries and husband,
      Kevin, Allie Perkins Jennifer Schmitt and husband, Ben, Nick Gerhardt and
      wife, Laura; and William Gerhardt; brother Jim and wife, Mary Ann; and 16
      great-grandchildren.

      Bill was preceded in death by his infant son, Bobby; parents William Sr. and
      Marie Perkins; and sister, Bonnie McKinney.

      Visitation will be held Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2009, from 2 to 8 p.m. at Ziemer
      Funeral Home, East Chapel, 800 S. Hebron Avenue, Evansville.

      Services 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009, at Ziemer Funeral Home, East, and
      continued at 10 a.m. with a funeral Mass at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 1301
      S. Green River Road, Evansville, IN, with Father Alex Zenthoefer officiating.
      Entombment will be in St. Joseph Mausoleum.

      A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2009. at the
      funeral home.
