  Frank J. Fisher Funeral Home: Betty Phillips Mattingly died Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at River Region Medical Center. She was 85. Mrs. Mattingly retired in 1994 from Waterways Experiment Station and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. She was preceded in death by husband, John Mattingly Sr.; her mother, Helen Bailey; her father, James Phillips; two sisters, Mary Bridges and Lois Ballow; and a brother, Paul Phillips. Survivors include two sons, John Mattingly of San Marcos, Calif., and Walter Mattingly of Vicksburg; a daughter, Barbara Mattingly Meadors of Denham Springs, La.; a brother, Jim Phillips of Houston, Texas; a sister, Linda Sullivan of Georgia; 10 grand-children; and four great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
