EVERETT PETTY - Service for Everett Petty will be held Monday, August 6, 2007 in the sancturay of First United Methodist Church in Jackson, TN. Interment will be in Center Hill Cemetery in Henderson County, TN. Mr. Petty, 94, died Saturday, July 14, 2007 after a brief illness. Mr. Petty was born January 1, 1913 in Henderson Co, TN, the son of Henry Jasper Petty and Agnes Goff Petty. His family moved to Jackson, TN, where he attended Jackson city schools. He graduated from West Tennessee Business College and Union University, and studies newspaper advertising at Columbia University in New York City. Mr. Petty married Cathrine Pedigo on October 3, 1941 at the Concordia Lutheran Church in Jackson. They made their home in Jackson and raised two sons, John Pedigo Petty and George William Petty. In 2005, Mr. and Mrs. Petty moved to Rochester, MN. In the 1930's and 1940's, Mr. Petty worked for the Agricultural Adjustment Admin. and U.S. Goverment Ordinance Offices in Tennessee and Kentucky. During WWII, he served in the 163rd Bomb Disposal Squad attached to the 12th Army Group under Omar Bradley in England, Belgium, France, and Germany. Mr. Petty started his newspaper advertising career with the Jackson Sun in May 1946 and became advertising manager of the Sun in 1969. After retiring in 1973, he worked in the advertising departments of WTJS and WTNN radio stations in Jackson until 1987. Survivors include his wife, Catherine Petty, son, Dr. George William Petty of Rochester, MN; three grandchildren; a half sister, Marie Forsythe of Jackson; and daughter-in-law, Linda Anderson Petty of Kansas City, MO. Preceding him in death were his son, John Pedigo Petty; his sisters, Evelyn Johnson, Evorah Merriwether, and Eunice Kelleher; his brothers, Houston Petty, Jerome Petty, and William Petty, and his half sister, Margaret King.
