Now that I am home here's an outline of what I have for the children of
Robert Rhodes and Elizabeth Cissell. I now have no second or third wife
for Robert.
There is said to be one child that I know nothing about and that would
be Cyprian Rhodes. There is a Cyprian I have been looking at that may be
this Cyprian but I don't have any evidence to support it.
The others I have evidence to support:
1. Hillary H. Rhodes, Born about 1818 in Kentucky (probably Washington
County) and died 7 Mar 1877 in Macoupin Co., IL. He married Louisa
Mattingly, d/o Charles Fowler Mattingly and Henrietta (Hennie) Miles
about 1836. He married 2) Rebecca Lake Sapp on 19 April 1866. She was
the widow of Benedict B. Sapp. He married 3.) in Macoupin Co.,
Illinois, Mrs. Matilda Hall on 5 Oct. 1869. I have not found her maiden
name. He married 4.) Phebe A. Tibbitts, on 10 Jan 1877 also in Macoupin.
2. Angeline Rhodes, b. 4 Mar 1824 and d. 2 Sep 1891. She married
Nathaniel Ervin Tandy on 30 Nov 1843 in Green County.
3. Sarah Jane Rhodes, b. about 1825 in Kentucky and died 11 Oct. 1895 in
Marion County. She married William Abin Mattingly.
4. Gregory George "Grigg" Rhodes, b. 18 Jan 1825 in Nelson Co., KY and
died 1 Apr 1906 in Daviess Co., KY. Gregory married on 8 May 1841
Margaret Minerva Church, the daughter of Fendal Church and Rachel Ann
Wedding.
5. Caroline Matilda Rhodes, b. about July 1828. She married William
Alexander Williams.
6. Charles Columbus "Lum" Rhodes b. 12 Mar 1830 in Washington Co., KY
and died 3 Aug 1906 in Deanfield, Ohio Co., KY. He's buried in
Oceanfield Cemetery in Ohio County. He married on 25 Nov 1854 to Mary
Katherine "Kittie" Ward.
7. Elizabeth Matilda Rhodes b. about 1832. She married John Reece
Mattingly in Marion Co. although I do not have an exact date. I believe
he is the person that Rebecca Sapp Rhodes calls Reason in her pension
application.
Rebecca also mentions a Harriett but says that in the short time she and
Hillary lived together, (1866) Harriett was single. I'm not sure where
to place her but as a single woman she does not match up with the
Harriett Teresa Rhodes who married Benedict Joseph Smith in 1858.
