    • I cannot locate Martha in the 1860 census. I do see her son John with his uncle Ambrose Shanks & Frances with her grandmother Lydia Shanks.

I'll go over your chart in detail but for the moment I just want to say that I have the same information you have regarding Frances Elizabeth Shanks and her twin brother John Joseph Shanks being illegitimate, Martha's mother Lydia was the sponser for Joseph and mostly likely Martha's sister Elizabeth Shanks was the sponsor for Frances.. But in Peyton Heady's abstract he leaves that fact out and implies they are the Gough children of Thomas Gough. I know at one time you told me that they were illegitimate and I had the microfilm on permanent loan at the Santa Monica Family History Center and while I don't have a comment to myself in the Thomas Gough file, I'm almost sure that when I saw the original entry it did mention that the two children were illegitimate. I've never found a marriage of Thomas Shanks to Martha Anne Shanks.

Also, Thomas Gough was living at home with his parents in the 1850 Union Co, KY census, John Joseph and Elizabeth Frances were listed as Shanks and living with their mother Martha and grandmother Lydia and others in the 1850 census. I show that Martha Anne Shanks married Aloyius Lucia Howard on Dec 27, 1851.

Actually my records were all screwed up here. I had Frances Elizabeth Gough listed as the illegitimate daughter of the above and also had her listed as Elizabeth Frances Shanks with no parents and married to James Valentine Austin Girten. I have corrected that error. Not sure why it had not come up earlier, all my notes do not support what I was showing. I had my notations in my notes that I just cut and pasted and put in this e-mail to you. but I'm very grateful for your bringing it up so I can get things right.
