Notes - Some researchers say she's a dau. of Edmond GAWF. There is a missing female. in 1830 age 5-10 (b. 1820-1825). This female is not in 1840 so she's married/gone by then) Nancy was b ca 1821 in either AL or TN. Either is good for a child of Edmond's born during this time period. Nancy's first known child was b. ca 1844 so she was married prior to that. Nancy named a dau. Marilda, and Edmond GAWF has a dau. Marilda - an unusual name. Also, Edmond might have had a son named Green GOFF who might have married Emily STANFILL. This Nancy Angeline named a son Greenberry. In 1860 she & her family are living in Henderson Co., TN and are listed on the page following Edmon.

Subject: Who was Nancy Goff's father
You asked if I had any further evidence of Nancy Angeline Goff being a child of Edmund Goff.
I don’t have documented evidence. But…
Before the DNA tests, it was a theory based on ages and proximity to the other Goff families in Tennessee.
Now that we have the DNA tests, if we trust the actual cM values and the ISOGG predicted values, the circumstantial evidence is pretty solid in my opinion. Let me walk you through it and you tell me what you think.
You are descended from Lewis Goff (b. 1811, sibling to Edmund Goff). You and mom are 4th cousins once-removed. The ISOGG expected cM value of that relationship is 6.64 cM. With a minimum threshold of 7 cM, you weren’t a statistical match. Yes, you were a match if we drop the threshold to 2 cM, but this isn’t statistically significant in predicting which generation contains your MRCA. Harry Broad is also descended from Lewis Goff. According to your tree, Harry is 5 generations removed from William Thomas Goff. This makes Harry and mom 4th cousins. The ISOGG expected value is 13.28. If Lewis were the father of Nancy instead of his brother [only known relationship is via DNA, they could be uncle/nephew, cousins or brothers] Edmund, Harry and mom would be 3rd cousins with an expected value of 53.13. Their tested value was 21.2 cM. This points to Lewis’s father William being the MRCA.
James “Ed” Goff is also descended from Lewis Goff. According to your tree, Ed is 4 generations removed from William Thomas Goff (nothing points to William Thomas GOFF as a father), making him and mom 3rd cousins, once removed. Their ISOGG expected value is 26.56. If their MRCA were Lewis instead of William Thomas Goff, they would be 2nd cousins, once removed, making their expected value 106.25. Their tested value was 53.7 cM. This also points to Lewis’s father William being the MRCA.
This doesn’t take into account the Kelley connections, but the fact that they have an additional DNA connection 5-6 generations back explains why the values are a little higher than would be expected if their only MRCA was a Goff.
We can summarize the evidence in this way:
1. William Thomas Goff had three sons, Edmund, Henry, and Louis/Lewis
2. DNA tests indicate that Nancy Goff was the daughter of one of William Thomas Goff’s sons.
3. Henry Goff’s wife was born in 1814, just 7 years before Nancy Goff in 1821.
4. The DNA tests between Bonnie Nell McCormick and descendants of Lewis Goff indicate that he is not the MRCA.
5. The conclusion, therefore, is that Nancy was the daughter of Edmund Goff, son of William Thomas Goff.
6. The only other possibility is that there is a Goff son of which nobody is aware that fathered Nancy Angeline Goff.
My head hurts now. Lol If you spot any errors in that mess let me know. I think I’m going to post the same thing in my McCormick group as well as the Goff group if you don’t spot any logical errors.
Have a great day!
Dave
