      Mrs. Laura McMullen, aged seventy-eight, died at her home near Jordan's Station this morning about 6 o'clock. Mrs McMullen, nee Shircliff, was born in Martin County at Dover Hill, October 27, 1847. In 1871 she was married to Archie McMullen and to their union ten children were born, five of whom survive to feel the loss of a mother. These children are Frank of Elnora, Charles of Chillicothe, Illinois, Mrs. Laura Higgins of Sarasota, Florida, Mrs Mary Ketchem of Elnora, and Rose McMullen living at home. Besides the husband, Mrs. McMullen leaves four brothers and one sister, James Shircliff of East St Louis, Stewart and Stephen Shircliff of Dexter, Missouri, and Mrs. Emma O'Brian of Evansville. Mrs. McMullen was a member of St. Simon's parish and devout in her felief. She had many friends and was respected and loved by all who had the privilege of her friendship. Her funeral will be held from the church of which she was a member. The time for the services has not yet been set pending the arrival of her near relatives who live at some distance from Washington. Burial will take place in St John's cemetery.

McMullen, the present genial postmaster of Elnora, Indiana, was born in Lawrence County, Illinois, on June 13, 1878, and is the son of Archie and Laura (Shirkliff) McMullen, natives respectively of Ohio and Indiana... Archie McMullen, the father of Mr. McMullen, has been a farmer all his life, and is now living on a farm in Washington Township in this county, where he and his wife are the parents of the following children, Charles, Rose, Laura, Mrs. Mary Ketchem, and F.A. The maternal great-grandparents of Mr. McMullen were John and Mary (Gough) Shirkliff ... The maternal grandparents of Mr. McMullen were Alex and Rose (Gough) Shirkliff, both natives of Kentucky ..
