Notes - I have linked James C. DAVENPORT, husband of Rhodica CARPENTER to Stephen DAVENPORT as a son. Stephen's son, Charles Henry, said his brother James was a bootmaker and went to Arkansas. Rhodica's sister, Sarah Jane, married a ? DAVENPORT and Charles also had a brother named William,. I still have not found any proof of this connection though. Maureen Pierce

DEAVENPORT, James 28, teacher, b. NC
Rhoda, 22 b. TN
Charles b. AR
BENNETT, William M. 10 b. AR
Note to Glenda: This is the William Bennett(orphan?) , guardian was *Hiram Bennett. He was assigned to ( I forget the word I want to use here) Robert Carpenter to to be taught the three R`s.........
Maybe Robert Carpenter placed him in the home of James C. and Rhody Carpenter/ Davenport to be taught .......by James ? * I believe Hiram Bennett was a brother to this boys father. John Bennett.
John Bennett was listed in the court records at William Davenport`s estate hearing.

James C. 40 b. Alabama (b. ca 1831) farmer (mother of foreign birth is checked)
Rhodicy 32 b. TN keeping house
Charles H. 11 (children b. ARK) works on farm
Sarah J 9
Mary A 7
James R 4
Widow is in 1880 Sharp Co. Arkansas so he must have died.
In 1870, Rhodicy & her husband James are in Christian, Independence, Arkansas. But it has James as being born in Alabama. My DAVENPORTs of his generation were born in TN. I'll keep looking though. In 1860 they are in Richwoods, Lawrence Co., AR (it's spelled DEAVENPORT in Ancestry.com's index) ut now James is b. in NC.
Arkansas Land Records Record (there is more listed for James DAVENPORT, this was issued same day as for George W. GAWF and Peter SINGLETON)
