Notes - William Evan Spaulding was the son of Joseph E. and Susannah (Elliott) Spalding. They were married on 12 Nov.,1810 in Washington Co.,Ky. William could have been born either in Ky. or in Barr Twp.,Dav. Co.,In. I'm not sure which. I do have record of his marriage to Lucretia Brewer on 14 Oct.,1851 in Dav. Co.,In. They were the parents of 2 sons and 4 daughters: Peachway b. abt.1852; Marcus b.10 Sep.,1854 d.31 Jan.,1881; Susan R. b.18 Apr.,1857 d.22 Apr.,1880; Stephen Jackson b.8 Apr.,1859 d.24 Apr.,1872 (Marcus,Susan,&Stephen are buried with their parents and names are on the same stone); Theresa b.31 May,1861; and Anna b.10 May,1863. The last 2 I found on line, so I have no proof of. After Lucretia's death he married a young widow who was born in Ireland and came to the US at age 10. Her name was Margaret E. Sullivan (Healy), daughter of Thomas Sullivan and the widow of Patrick Healy. They had 2 children. I do not know where or when they married, but they were the parents of 4 daughters and 1 son: Lucretia b.6 Aug.,1868; Catherine b.10 Dec.,1869; Mary Alice b.3 May,1872 d.29 Oct.,1888 (she is on the stone also);James Patrick b.18 Nov.,1874 d.25 Feb.,1950; and Agnes Loretta b.22 May,1880 d.13 Jun.,1906. I found Lucretia on line so I have no proof, but Mary and James I know are buried in St Mary's and Agnes may be also since she was married to Patrick Ryan and I haven't looked for that name yet. I do have a copy of their wedding picture taken at St Mary's Church. Catherine entered St. Mary-Of-The-Woods in 1890 and became Sr. Alphonse Liquori.
About the name Spalding/Spaulding. The spelling changes depending where you look. I do know that both spellings are the same family
Note: I could not find an obituary, but found a notice about his will in The Wastington Democrate.
The will of the late Wm. E. Spaulding, of Barr township, has been admitted to probate. He bequeaths 20 acres of land to his grandson, Charles W. Spaulding; ninety dollars to his son James P. Spaulding, and to Mrs. Margaret Spaulding is left all property remaining, the same to be divided among the children after her death. The will was witnessed by Frank Cunningham and Wm. Houghton. James P. Spaulding is named executor.
