Crossing the Dark River; Henderson County, Tennessee, Obituaries; 1827-1950 p. 209 GOFF, Stephen Thomas (The Lexington Progress, October 12, 1923) Stephen Thomas Goff, eldest son of George W. and Mrs. Susan Goff, was born in Henderson County, June 7th, 1882, the place of his birth being near Center Hill, in the old 11th district. His death occurred October 10, 1923, at his home in Lexington. On December 21st, 1904, he was in the fullest sense of the term, happily married to Miss Maude Robbs, daughter of Mr. C. A. Robbs, who survives him with three children, Stephen, Jr., Mary Sue and Earl. He is also survived by his five brothers: Dr. Frank (Jesse) of Chesterfield; Dick of Juno; Ben and Bill, this county, and Hobart, Parsons, Decatur County.
Mr. Goff had been engaged in the timber business near Reagan, staying in the home of Mr. Irvin Washburn. Last Monday night Mr. Goff was again attacked by a malady with which he has been afflicted, and when he was discovered to be ill Tuesday morning, he was unconscious and was brought to his home here in that condition. Several years ago he professed religion and united with the Baptist Church here, hence it is fitting that the Baptist pastor, Rev. Fleetwood Ball, should officiate in his funeral service. We feel competent to speak of the live and character of Steve Goff. He was but two years old when we came to Lexington and we have known him nearly all of his 39 years. He was a good man to his family, a devoted husband and perhaps too indulgent father; he was a good neighbor and a friend who was always ready to help a friend; he was a man who attended strictly to his own business and in all ways he was a well-balanced, well disposed man. He was our friend and with his people we mourn his untimely death. May his soul rest in peace.
