    • Something doesn't work out on her dates:
      Elizabeth Goff died in 1888 or 1889. The 1898 year is probably an error in reading what was probably a badly worn stone. If you take the birth date of 5/30/1852 and add to it the age 36 yrs 9 months 16 days, you get a death date of 3/16/1889. Nothing adds up right but if she was born in 1852 and lived 36+ years, she died in 1888 or 1889 so a marriage of late 1889 is OK.

      Nancy's going over all her GOFF info and comparing to mine. She had a question. Since Elizabeth KENNEDY GOFF is a double relative of yours, do you know if she and Leander divorced?

      Nancy writes:" Leander Wesley Goff married wife #2 on 8-12-1889. Wife #1 didn't die till 12-16-1898! What's the right dates?"

      I checked Early Marriage Records (1869-1921) of Decatur County, Tennesseep. 35 and it has
      Leander Wesly GOFF - Elizabeth J. KENNEDY 27 Aug 1873
      and L. W. GOFF - Lucy MANESS 13 August 1889

      the History of Scotts Hill, TN, p. 368 has him marrying both women.

      So hopefully there was a divorce, or an error in transcriptions.
