  • Notes
    • Does anyone have documentation for this statement? 10/19/1677: Stephen Gough made oath that his wife Mary, the admx. of Lt. Col. John Jarboe was not able to travel so far as St. Maries with great danger having been long sick and therefore prays time til the first Tuesday in November next to give her acct. of her admin. (Donnelly).

      Yes: Testamentary Proceedings 9:381 1677
And the last record of Mary Tattershall that I'm aware of

Mary was nine years of age when she and her brother, William Tattershall were brought to the Maryland by John Pile in 1648.
Will: Annapolis, MD, Lib. 4C:36 (Mary Gough)

John's wife is named as Mary and children as John, Peter, Henry and Mary in his will. In 1656, Mary M. Jarboe recorded a gift "unto Mrs. Ann Hammonds youngest child, I being his God-mother" indicating that they were married by this date. Lt. Col. John Jarboe was named as "brother" in the will of William Tattershall in 1670.

      James D Pulliam wrote:

      > Mike,In Donnely's COLONIAL SETTLERS ST. CLEMENT'S BAY p 230 The Tattershall Family----William Tattershall and his sister Mary, Catholics, were born in Wiltshire, England and came to the Province of Maryland

in 1648 transported by John Pile (Patents 2:508-509) William Tattershall gave a deposition in 1661 that he was 24 so was born in 1637 and only eleven years old when brough to Maryland. on P 132 The Jarboe Family, John Jarboe married Mary Tattershall, sister of William Tattershall. In 1656 Mary Jarboe recorded a gift "unto Mrs. Ann Hammonds youngest child, I being his God-mother", so they were married by that date. If she was about 9 years old in 1648 she would have been about 18 when married to John Jarboe.

      > As for the Jarboe children, the Maryland record offers no data of birth dates, nor church record, or stone found to substantiate. (That I know of) Therefore, the following helps narrow down the ages. All of the Jarboe children according to Assembly Proceedings, May - June 1676. 517 Liber W H & L were under age in 1674 and John Jourdian was asked by Jarboe to manage thier affairs. (see below). Based on English law the eldest son had primary inheritance rights (or birth rights) and recieved the largest share, then subsquent male children in order of birth, then females etc. Thus that line is demostrated by the fore mentioned document.
